South Africa is a country with immense potential and possibilities. However, the scenes from 12 July, where uncontrolled and widespread looting took place in Kwazulu-Natal and Gauteng, can easily dampen our spirits and reduce our hope for South Africa. These scenes were indeed disturbing and can be described as criminal, but the flip side of this coin could also be that it was a cry for help. I am of the opinion that a large percentage of the South African population is living without hope and this, as a root cause, will have to be addressed. For sure not an easy task.
